2021 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV gets a facelift, hybrid and R performance versions added

Volkswagen's best selling car of the last year has been updated for the 2021 model year. The second-gen Volkswagen Tiguan SUV has been on sale since 2016 and was also the most popular car from the Volkswagen Group last year with 9.11 lakh units produced.

The new Tiguan's front end has been restyledbet乐投 to bring it in line with other SUVs in the VW line-up, such as the Touareg and the US-market Atlas Cross. This is seen with the wider, horizontally slatted grille and the more swept-back matrix LED headlamps reminiscent of the latest Golf. The bonnet too has a more contoured look. The R-Line trim seen here also adds an aggressive front bumper with large, faux inlets.

At the rear, there is a mildly restyled bumper and new details for the LED tail lamps. The R-Line also gets the chrome exhaust tips and the newly-designed upsized wheels. The facelift has brought with it two new versions of the Tiguan, a plug-in hybrid variant and the R performance variant. These get unique styling cues to differentiate from the rest of the line-up.

bet乐投On the inside, there is a new steering wheel with capacitive controls. Also new is the MIB 3 infotainment system and new touch-operated climate-control panel. The new infotainment brings with it connected car features while a 480-watt Harman Kardon sound system is an option.

2021 Volkswagen Tiguan Hybrid

2021 Volkswagen Tiguan R

bet乐投The Tiguan is expected to come with the newest line of VW Group engines. This means a 1.5-litre petrol with 150PS/250 Nm and a 2.0-litre unit with 190PS/320 Nm. Both should pair with a seven-speed DCT and come with optional AWD. The R version should get the 2.0-litre petrol with around 300PS while the plug-in hybrid should pair a 1.4-litre petrol motor with a 13 kWh battery pack for a combined output of around 200PS. Diesel versions will also be available through a 2.0-litre unit.

The Tiguan is available in India currently in its seven-seater Allspace iteration. The five-seater is expected to be reintroduced in facelifted form eventually, although we expect it to be similarly packaged to the Skoda Karoq.
